swamp shorts

I went down to Hilton Head for a couple days to hang with my mom. We had a pretty fun time. Kayaked with dolphins, had some really good dinners. Sat on the beach, you know southern stuff. I got some killer hunting glasses ala Hunter Thompson. It was just really nice to get outta the city for a bit. Sitting on the beach at 8am really calmed my thoughts. A storm was blowing in from the east and you could see the line of rain cutting across the horizon. Very peaceful.
I went to the Piggly Wiggly to get a couple snacks and realized that as far as brands, PW was really trying to set the bar for creating a cult following. For a grocery that's pretty bold. I mean Whole Foods has created a following through it's ethics, but PW is just a run of the mill gutter southern grocer. They had racks of shirts though, and coozies out the wazzoo. Funny PW toys and all kinds of stuff. I've never seen a safeway with a fan section. I succumbed to it too, and bought a great grey shirt with a big pink pig on it. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a funny t-shirt.

Pictures coming soon. I gotta go see the Phillies get thier ass kicked tonight so they'll be up tomorrow.

bama

T and i went to Alabama recently for the sad occasion of her grandmothers funeral. everytime we go there we have to stop at pete's famous hotdogs in birmingham. it's a Btown institution. Gus, the hotdog magician, has been bent behind that counter for something like 50 years. he's memorized hundreds of regulars and thier respective orders. his face is the only thing that turns left right or up when you come through the door. you going or stayin'? he asks. Then he asks in order: onions? sauce? how many you want? then the other guy asks what you wanna drink? they have Grapico which is impossible to find up here, but is a great grape soda. all in all though, Pete's has to be the best dogs ever. 5 guys is good, but it's more of a sandwich with a hotdog on it. Pete's dogs are the real deal and the sauce is outta sight. Check it out before Gus kicks it.

from the black hole

as many of you know, my harddrive is my black hole of photos. i offload from the camera and the photos dissapear into oblivion not to be seen again. I guess it's a kind of editing. Well, I've been re-editing that blackhole and finding some gems. here's one from the shoot that i did for tropical cigars in southbeach. the outtakes were wayyyyy better than the actual ad. but what do you expect?

we got our first tomato of the season nearly ready. while we've been over come with jalapenos, the tomatoes have been slow to ripen. there's a second that's starting to get orange, but it'll still be another week or so. can't wait, no more payin 5.99 lb for that crap.

nyc night

went up to nyc friday night to see emil from ad school. it was pretty fun. got to hang at some swankish bar then tooled around for a bit and ended up with falafel at 5am. then got back on the bus after sleeping for anhour. but not before going to the Kwik E Mart in times square they made to promo the simpsons movie. the rest of the weekend was pretty chill. T and I went to a great low country restaurant saturday night called Geehee Girl Rice Cafe. it's in germantown, so a lil drive, but not too far. it was the best shrimp and grits i've had at a restaurant. i think it even beat Blue Heaven in Key West.
