TOYLAND SHOW OPENING

Well we had the opening a little while back and it went great! We lucked out and had 3 other openings in the same building, so the traffic was never ending all night. The response was tremendous. The sales were virtually non-existant. I did sell one piece which was a great feeling. A girl who works for an art group was saying that Philly has this reputation of being the cheapest city on the coast. Not for cost of living, but for tight wallets around art. How does a city expect to keep a thriving art scene if it won't support it? Open your minds and your wallets Philadelphia! Art does not produce itself and artists aren't born with MBAs to live off of. If you want the art to stay and add that much needed energy then support it.

TOYLAND SHOW - 2

The Crane Arts Building where the Nexus Gallery is, is open 12-6pm Wednesday through Sunday. So there's plenty of weekend time to get out and see the show. Or do a nooner if you're looking for something different.

One correction - it says the closing reception is at 7pm...it is at 6pm. If you get there at 7, there may be no beer left.

TOYLAND SHOW

Finally done with gettin my show together and we got it hung up. The opening was last Thursday and we had an amazing turn out. It was totally packed! We lucked out with having a couple other openings the same night so the traffic was great. I sold one piece so far which is always great. I'm going to continue with the series now and get it ready for my solo show in March. I know it's gonna fly by and I need to expand the body of work something fierce! The work got a great reception though and people seem really into the idea of seeing how these different chefs work and what the different kitchens are like. It really amazes me to see the different styles that they work in. Some are meticulous in detail in preparing the plate. Others are very hap hazzard, but have a lot of intensity with the pans and oil and things catching on fire. The group show is up till the first friday in November, so get out and check it out. It's seriously worth it though. It's a great group of photographers in this show.

Toyland is all about 6 different photographers working with toy cameras like the Holga or the Lomo. Techniques span the gamut with one artist working with hand mixed emulsion on Japanese Gampi paper. Others printed huge on translucent vellum. Mine, I chose to print on Kodak metallic finish paper. I wanted to have the saturation of the colors really stand out and for the sheen of the stainless steel that you find in all professional kitchens to really pop. It totally worked out perfectly too. I am really happy with the result.

Apocolyptic rainbow

This was the scene that confronted me the other day after a storm. I wish I could have gotten the lightning that was flashing behind the rainbow.
